I wrote this song when someone in my extended family had passed. It was a way for me to process not necessarily my own sadness, but a commentary on how short life is and the futility of the disagreements that had gone on through the years between others and this person. As I continued to write it, it became a more general exploration of loss and longing

Smoke flew higher than we’d hoped

To doubts, to dreams, to hopes, to scenes, of us

In a flash life happens, in a flash life ends
An uncharted passage, both loss and bliss
I think about regrets, all the words never said

Life happens when you least expect, so appreciate the time you get
'Cause I lost that time then I lost my mind now I'm back in line
