about

This song is my personal anthem. It was one of the quickest songs I’ve ever written. I wanted to end the EP with this song because even though it is introspective and full of similar themes as the rest of the songs, I feel uplifted by the end of the song. It’s a message of empowerment and safety in self that felt perfect to round the project out.

lyrics

I wanna be cared for
I wanna be seen
I wanna be cherished
For all of my being
I wanna be grateful
For all that I have
I wanna be joyful
I want it to last

I wanna be free to feel
the joy in me
I wanna be free to seek
my possibilities
I wish this for me

I had to keep silent
On all of my pain
I had to just bear it
Till it went away
I had to keep fighting
I had to stay sane
I had to survive it
So I found a way

I wanna be free to feel
the joy in me
I wanna be free to seek
my possibilities
I had to for me

I write my own story
I write my own past
I write my own glory
In colours of sad
I write in my blue ink
I write on my black
I write for the truest
Tones in my laugh

I wanna be free to feel
the joy in me
I wanna be free to seek
my possibilities
I wish this for me
I had to for me
I write this for me
For me
